Bearcat Girls Season Recap...
November 9th, 2010 marked another start to North Butler basketball for girls. The team was greeted with five new freshmen players to represent the Bearcat girl's basketball Program.
With a total of thirteen players compromising the program, again a major decision had to be made about the number of games and more importantly the quarter limitation allowed to be played by our freshmen and sophomores. We did play one away ball game against Osage for our first game. The rest of the games were played at home with our eight players.
The team members were Emily Endelman, Leah Mouw, Cassidy Bangasser, with five freshmen Nikki Boomgarden, Erin Scroggin, Mar Krause, Megen Reiken, and Andrea Schrage comprised this new squad.
Every year is a new beginning for the young North Butler Bearcats. The major emphasis is placed on defense and team play and ball movement. Each year is an eye opening experience for each entering freshmen group. The intensity and commitment to this overall concept has proven to be a successful combination.
Coach Clipperton has given Coach Lindell and Coach Senior the above formula to work with, and allowed us to work with these young bearcats. Hard work, communication, caring and a team approach to instruction and guidance has been quite successful.
Our goal as a staff is to improve and get better as a player and a person over the course of the season. When this group started, we as a staff was very concerned about how the new freshmen would make the increased adjustment from junior high to high school. This group had injuries, illness to over come during the year, but a gradual individual and team improvement found the young bearcats ready for the season.
The bearcats opened with a win over Osage Junior Varsity. The group found out that the style of play by North Butler Bearcats is one of movement and intense defensive pressure forcing teams to play at a faster pace than they practice. This opening win was a valuable learning adventure and learning experience that intense practice sessions needed to take place against ourselves and to provide competition for this year's varsity group. Over the season our junior varsity improved with revised defensive adjustments in how to stop and make the young bearcats tougher and more intense players. The personal growth for each bearcat was also showing improvement against the varsity players.
As a coaching staff, we would like to thank parents and fans for your support this year we have continued to work hard and make individual improvements. At times, this group has worked before our junior varsity game. The third quarter found the young bearcats coming out much stronger and with greater intensity at both ends.
This group was able to average over 45 points a game while only giving up 32. This group was limited to playing time with the limited numbers, but did not shy away from their double duty. As stated earlier, we practice before our games at full speed and intense at making the varsity earn and work hard for every shot and pass , then take this intensity to the junior varsity game. This has been a corner stone for our program. These young ladies have made a tremendous jump in intensity and work ethic this basketball season. The coaching staff would like to thank you for your parental support and fans for watching the young bearcats. It is fantastic to see the support for these young ladies. Parents, you should be extremely proud of the improvement of your daughter, and as a coaching staff, we thank you for the opportunity to work with this year's group. We as a staff apologize for the incomplete records for our junior varsity group so the following information is a partial reflection of their performances. The young ladies finished the season with a 6-1 record.
Sophmore scoring: Leah Mouw 14 points, Cassidy Bangasser 14, Emily Endelman 24 pts. Freshmen scorers: Erin Scroggin 2 pts, Andrea Schrage 22 pts. Megan Reiken 28 pts., Mar Kruse 33 pts. Nikki Boomgarden 43 pts.
A balanced scoring attack along with a different individual leading the team in scoring on different nights. Along with improvement from practice session to the game each and every time. Again, as a staff, we would thank you as parents and the fans for attending our games. Your presence and support are vital for our program.
