DO YOU REMEMBER GARRY MOORE?

WILL ANYONE REMEMBER KERN CHIROPRACTIC?

From 1958 to 1964 a prime time comedy and variety show, The Garry Moore Show, ran on television. It was hosted by, ah, good guess, Garry Moore and his longtime colleague, Durwood Kirby. (Wasn't there a hat on Rocky and Bullwinkle called the Kurwood Derby?) Anyway, my folks, Cliff and Franny, always watched the show. Apparently they thought it was funny. And beings as how we only had one TV back in those days with only 2 stations, we kids had to watch what they watched. That's probably when I layed on the floor and did homework, if I had homework. Or played with army men and dinosaurs. I do know that I found Garry Moore very boring and as soon as his show went off the air, his memory was totally forgotten and relegated to a far off place in the deepest recesses of my brain. Until recently. I don't know why, but driving home from work the other day, his name suddenly popped into my consciousness. I couldn't help but think, “What the heck? Why Garry Moore?” Then it hit me – Gutter theme. That had to be it. My brain was sending me a message. So I got to thinking – Kern Chiropractic is the only bowling team with a good chance to catch Whitetails and be in the Big Roll-Off. Last year the Chiros lost the opportunity in the last frame of the last game of the season, beaten by Barry's Contracting, who won the championship. No one remembers. Second place is not memorable. Now only four games separate Whitetails and Kern's Chiros with only 5 weeks remaining in the season. Can they do it? It's possible. The opportunity is in the Chiropractors' hands, so to speak. If they do it, Kern Chiropractic will go down in Hot Shot history. If they don't, well, think Garry Moore.

In metro bowling action last week, Allison Pharmacy inoculated Whitetails 3-1, winning two games and total by only 7 pins. Clark Freesemann and sub Cody “Wild Bill” Gethmann each rolled nice 550 series, a 190's game and a 200's game to lead the Pharmacy. Whitetails wasn't far behind, with 4 of 5 rolling their average, but lacked the 200 games. Justin Abell continued to bowl hot when he's needed most. Kern Chiropractic swept Frances Gardens 4-0,  reaching    .500 for the season for the first time this late in the season in Chiro history, according to Al Zweck. Every Chiro rolled his average, with Kevin Schafer leading the way with his second best career 546 series. Al Zweck fired 4 straight strikes in Game One and Tim Kern rolled his average for the 14th straight game, tying Jimmie Benson for the current Hot Shot season record. Darin Trees led the league for the Frannys for the 2nd consecutive week with a swell 571 series and 210 game. And finally, the Graveyard Shift won a series for the first time in 7 weeks, beating Barry's Contracting 2 ½  to 1 ½ . Both teams tied for total pins. Brendt Landers hurled a team high 497 for the Shift and Randy Sage threw his season best 434 series to help out. Free agent sub John Martin led Barry's with his season best 494 series and Rich Tynan returned to sub, rolling a nice 187 game.

This Wednesday will feature the Chiros versus the Pharmacy, so come on out to root for your favorite team, as I'm sure Whitetails will bring their usual contingent of beautiful women. Oh, yeah, the ghost of Garry Moore might just be floating around somewhere out there, too.
